Amazon raises device prices across Echo, Kindle, Fire TV and eero, with the Echo Dot up 60%
Amazon told reporters it absorbed rising memory and storage costs as long as it could before adjusting prices across its product lines.
The cheapest way into Amazon's ecosystem just got a lot less cheap. The Echo Dot now lists at $79.99, up from $49.99, which TechCrunch calls a 60% jump overnight and the steepest example in a round of increases that TechCrunch says reaches as much as 60% in some cases.
Android Authority reports the higher prices cover Echo smart speakers, Kindle e-readers, Fire TV sticks and eero wireless mesh routers. The examples it lists:

Ring gear appears to have been left alone, according to Android Authority.
Amazon points at components. A company spokesperson said the consumer electronics industry is facing significant increases in memory and storage costs, and that "after absorbing these increases for as long as we could, we recently adjusted pricing across our product lines." The same spokesperson said Amazon plans to run promotions across the lineup throughout the year, which is the part worth remembering before you pay a new list price for a Fire TV Stick.
TechCrunch notes that price-tracking sites like CamelCamelCamel show the stark uptick against levels that had previously hovered much lower, and that Amazon is not alone in this: Apple recently hiked its own prices and has tried to soften the new rates with a device-leasing program.
The timeline is the uncomfortable bit. TechCrunch reports the RAM shortage is expected to continue throughout 2027 before prices potentially crest and stabilize in 2028, so this is not a one-weekend correction that resolves itself by spring.
Kindle owners have had a busy few weeks either way. Android Authority reports that last week Kindle devices got two updates that tightened DRM enforcement and closed a popular book-borrowing loophole. Now the hardware costs $40 more.
