Garmin's Fenix 9 starts at $999.99, with a titanium Pro model above it

The cheapest way into Garmin's new flagship line is $999.99, and that buys the 43mm Fenix 9. What the money gets you, according to The Verge, is a watch with 50 percent more RAM than before and an upgraded map engine that pans faster. Android Authority puts a figure on it: Garmin says panning is now 30% faster than before.

Battery numbers scale with the case, as they always have here. The Verge reports Garmin's claim of up to 29 days in smartwatch mode on the largest 51mm size.

Above the base model sits the Fenix 9 Pro, which for the first time uses a titanium case. It starts at $1,099.99, and Android Authority reports that price covers both the 43mm and the 47mm, jumping to $1,199.99 for the 51mm.

The biggest Pro is also the first in the line to get a 1.5-inch OLED display, per The Verge.

The more interesting option is solar, and the caveat attached to it is the part worth reading twice: The Verge reports the 47mm and 51mm Pro models offer a solar-charged display option promising up to 57 days of battery life, but that figure assumes you spend three hours a day outside in 50,000 lux conditions, which is bright direct sunlight rather than a walk to the shop. Most buyers will not hit it.

Satellite connectivity is a paid add-on rather than a tier of its own. The Verge reports inReach satellite or LTE is available on all three Pro sizes, 43mm, 47mm and 51mm, for an extra $100 plus a $7.99 per month subscription. That puts a connected 51mm Pro at $1,299.99 before the subscription starts running.
