Google is emailing Pixel pre-order discount codes ahead of tonight's Pixel 11 launch

If a discount code from Google has landed in your inbox, it is meant to be used today. Engadget reports that the company has been sending out codes that can be applied when you pre-order a new Pixel phone on the day of its hardware event, August 12.

The amounts are not uniform. 9to5Google received a $150 code in the US, according to Engadget, and a Reddit thread cited in the same report shows people getting codes worth $100, $200 or $250 off the price of whichever device and configuration they pick. Google has also started sending codes to users in other countries.

Two limits are worth knowing before you plan around one: you may not be able to stack codes, and you may not be able to use someone else's.

The phones themselves arrive at 6PM ET, when Google hosts what Engadget describes as a celebrity-packed event in New York with Trevor Noah as host and a long list of well-known names attached, among them Alex Cooper, Steph Curry, PinkPantheress and Ayami Nakajo. The Pixel 11 lineup is the headline.

Google has spent the last few days dropping teasers of the devices it will announce. Based on those, Engadget expects a base Pixel 11, two Pro models in different sizes and a foldable, plus, probably, a new smartwatch.
