If you were planning to buy a Google TV Streamer, the cheapest route right now is a retailer that hasn't refreshed its listing yet. Google's own store has moved the 4K box to $149.99, up from $99.99, a 50 percent increase. Android Authority reports that Best Buy has followed, while Amazon and Walmart were still clearing remaining units at the old price, and Engadget could still get one for $100 from Amazon at the time of its report.

The exact figure depends on where you read it. Engadget writes $150, The Verge writes $149, and Android Authority gives the store price as $149.99. Same jump either way, fifty dollars.

Google pegs the increase to rising component costs. Engadget adds context of its own, noting that AI companies have been buying up most of the world's RAM supplies and leaving manufacturers with little hardware capacity for other customers and devices.

The Streamer is not alone in the catalogue. Google is also hiking prices on certain models of the Nest Cam and its doorbells, according to Android Authority, which notes the newly launched Google Home Speaker has so far escaped the change.

Some perspective on where this device started: when the TV Streamer replaced the Chromecast in 2024 it launched at $100, and that already cost twice what the 4K Chromecast did at the time, so the box now sits at three times the price of the product it was built to succeed.

The rest of the category has been moving the same direction. The Verge points out that Amazon raised the Fire TV Stick 4K Max by over 40 percent to $84.99 earlier this month, and the Apple TV 4K went to $199 for 64GB and $249 for 128GB after Apple's sweeping June price hikes. At $149.99 the Google box lands between them.

It also lands a couple of weeks after Google launched the Pixel 11 line with a $100 price hike over the Pixel 10 models.
