Huawei Mate XT 2 goes up for pre-order in China, reports say, ahead of a September 7 debut
The tri-fold now folds inward and has a cover screen, and one configuration is listed with a privacy matte display.
The most consequential change to Huawei's tri-fold is the direction it folds. According to GSMArena, the Mate XT 2 uses an inward-folding design with a cover screen, which is a break from both the original Mate XT and the Mate XTs, and it means the flexible panel is protected when the phone is closed rather than exposed on the outside.
Android Authority reports the phone has gone up for pre-order in China, detailed in a teaser video posted on Weibo and listed on Huawei's own Vmall store. That combination gives a fairly complete picture of the hardware ahead of launch.
Memory and storage climb high. Android Authority says the Mate XT 2 comes with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB or 1TB storage options, and that Huawei will sell a version of the top-end storage variant in purple with a privacy screen installed. GSMArena describes that privacy matte display variant as a 16GB/1TB configuration, and reports a 16GB/2TB model above it that ships with a stylus in the box.
Colour choices are Black and White, plus the purple special edition, listed by GSMArena as Dark Black, Pure White and Jin Purple.
On the back, the octagonal camera module carries over from the original Mate XT.
GSMArena reports the phone is expected to run the Kirin 9050 Pro and carry a 6,000mAh battery. Neither is confirmed by Huawei.
The Mate XT 2 goes official in China on September 7, and pricing is expected to be disclosed then.
