Motorola Edge 70 Max lands above the Pro with a 7,100mAh battery and a 144Hz LTPO panel

Motorola's Edge line now goes past Pro, and the phone that sits there is built around endurance rather than optics. The Edge 70 Max carries a 7,100mAh battery, and GSMArena, which has tested it, clocked the 90W wired charging at 50% in 21 minutes and a full charge in 51 minutes.

Motorola's own numbers are more generous. The company advertises up to 73 hours of battery life on a single charge and says 90W TurboPower delivers "power for the day in just 6 minutes", which is a different kind of measurement to a stopwatch on a full cycle.

Wireless charging is 25W and magnetic, over Qi2.2. GSMArena measured 50% in 39 minutes and 100% in 85 minutes. There is also 5W reverse wired charging for accessories.

The screen is where the Max separates itself from the rest of the family. It is a 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED with a 144Hz refresh rate, 1 billion colours, HDR10+, PWM dimming, a peak brightness of 7,000 nits and a 1440x3168 panel at 510ppi in a 19.8:9 aspect ratio, while the other Edge 70 models make do with regular LTPS displays. Motorola frames the resolution as 77% more pixels than Full HD.

Inside is the Qualcomm SM8845 Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 on a 3nm process. Motorola cites CPU speeds up to 3.8 GHz, a dedicated AI processing engine and 46% better NPU performance than the previous generation.

The cameras are the compromise. GSMArena calls the setup the bare minimum: a 50MP main sensor and an 8MP ultrawide, with no telephoto at all.

Durability goes the other way. The phone is rated IP68 and IP69, so high pressure water jets as well as immersion up to 1.5m for 30 minutes, and it is MIL-STD-810H compliant. It measures 164.0x77.0x8.3mm and weighs 221g.

Software is Android 16 with up to three major OS updates promised.

GSMArena's review unit, a European one, shipped with only a USB-C to USB-C cable and the manuals, no charger, though the site notes other regions might get one in the box.
