Nocpix Nature's Rovex is a thermal camera built for finding birds, not identifying them
The London-based company says its handheld thermal imager pairs a 5-inch screen with AI tracking to point birdwatchers at heat sources in dense cover.
If you have ever spent twenty minutes sweeping a hedgerow that turned out to be empty, Rovex is aimed squarely at you. Nocpix Nature introduced the handheld thermal imaging camera on 15 August 2026, and the pitch is narrow on purpose: it is not there to replace binoculars or any other birdwatching optic, but to tell you where to point them when low light, dense vegetation or a cluttered background makes visual searching hard.
The hardware is built around a 384 × 288 sensor with 12μm pixel pitch, feeding a 5-inch display. Field of view is 17.5° × 13.1°, which Nocpix Nature frames as covering a broader area per sweep while still showing thermal detail on a screen large enough to read at a glance.
On top of the sensor sits image processing the company calls R+ Super-Resolution, along with smart denoising and target highlighting, all of it meant to lift a thermal signature out of a messy background. AI Smart Tracking is the other half of that idea. According to Nocpix Nature, it highlights potential bird heat sources and steers your attention toward areas worth checking, so the device supports the act of searching rather than just rendering a thermal picture, which the company says means less time spent scanning stretches of habitat where nothing is happening.
Weight is under 290g. That matters more than it sounds for a device you hold up repeatedly over a long morning, and Nocpix Nature is explicit that the form factor was chosen for extended outdoor searching.
