RugOne's Xsnap 7 Pro is a rugged phone with an action camera that pops off the back

Pull the cube off the back of the RugOne Xsnap 7 Pro and you have a 39-gram action camera you can wear on your chest. Snap it back on and it recharges from the phone and moves its footage across. That docking loop is the entire pitch, and it is what separates this from every other armoured slab with a big battery.

The Verge reports the camera tops out at 2.7K at up to 30fps through a 133-degree ultrawide lens, with 64GB of onboard storage good for about eight hours of 1080p. Every time it docks, video can be transferred to the phone's 512GB.

On its own battery the module records for up to 40 minutes, which The Verge says can be stretched to as much as 800 minutes if you keep returning it to the phone between takes and topping it up from the 9,300mAh cell inside. So the phone is the power bank. Detached, the camera is also rated deeper than the handset, 5 meters against 2.

RugOne claims its software stabilization smooths footage even when the camera is flipped a full 360 degrees. Engadget lists distortion correction and horizon lock alongside a Freeframe mode that records the full sensor area, so a clip can be cropped to vertical or horizontal afterwards rather than committed at capture.

A magnet pendant is included for body-mounted shooting, and Engadget says the camera works with third-party accessories built for a universal mount.

The 6.67-inch 120Hz AMOLED doubles as a wireless viewfinder while the camera is off the phone. The Verge puts that range at up to 160 feet; Engadget describes the preview feed going to RugOne's companion app from up to 50 meters. Engadget also gives the panel a 1,700-nit peak, behind Gorilla Glass Victus, on a body rated for 1.5-meter drops onto concrete.

Inside is a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 5G with 12GB of RAM, shipping on Android 16 with upgrades promised as far as Android 20.

The fixed cameras are less exotic but not thin: a stabilized 50MP main sensor, a 32MP selfie camera, and a 64MP night vision camera with infrared LEDs that RugOne pitches for "crisp black-and-white detail" when shooting wildlife after dark.

Kickstarter opens September 7th at €799, roughly $930, in limited quantities. The general release follows in October at $999 through Amazon and RugOne's own store, in Sand Dune and Classic Black. Engadget notes RugOne is part of Ulefon, which has been making ruggedized phones for a few years.
